I’ve finished my first read-through of my novel last night while eating pizza and watching Master and Commander. And when I got to the end, I noticed something about my story. My romance subplot is about a guy who falls in love with a girl in his dreams. But that doesn’t really take off until the second book. The first book is concerned with how they meet within his dreams and the discovery that she really is real. Here’s what I discovered.
Last week I promised myself to get through Chapter 20 in my revisions. This week I’m proud to report that I did. I’ve noticed my writing has noticeably improved over the first chapters I wrote and the points in which there have been story inconsistencies or character problems have been fewer than they were at the beginning of the novel.
Yeesh. I went into this revision process raring to go, and now I’m barely in the midst of Chapter 10 (out of 24) and am huffing and puffing. Well, Holly did say this was the hardest part, I suppose. But I need to set a goal.
